The De Facto Standard in Graphical Arts,
There isn’t much to say about the Adobe Creative Suite besides that it is the de facto standard in graphical arts software. Sure there are freeware programs that perform similarly, but if you want to use the real deal, the Adobe class products is what is generally used throughout the world and in real-world design shops.
If you want to edit photos, design a newsletter, poster, develop websites, program flash – this is the package that does it all. CS4 improves upon the success of prior Create Suite packages and includes even more features to help you with your design process.
The student version worked as advertised. Once you get the package, you install it and then you get a special serial number, which you then have to active on a website. You need to attach your student ID or other materials to prove you are a higher education student. Once you authenticate that with them, you can register the product so that you can use it after 30 days.
One part that I could do without is Version Cue. To me, this software component is unnecessary and adds unneeded bloat to the software. Besides that, the software works great – although make sure your system has at least 3GB of RAM to perform consistently fast.

Still sets the standard,
I am a developer more than I am a designer. I have been using Flash since version 4. My real desire was just to upgrade my non-academic version of Flash to the current CS4 release. As a student in CIT and MIS, I have had to design more graphics than I care to admit and bought the previous design suite from Adobe for this purpose. The differences between that version and this one are amazing. I highly recomend purchasing this as an upgrade (especially if you are a Flash user as the new 3D tools can save a lot of coding time). I selected this version over some of the other suites because I am interested in (and soon to be studying) print publishing. InDesign, like most of Adobe’s software, sets the standard in its field.
In regards to verifying my student status, my student ID did not have a date on it (as required for registration). My school does electronic billing, so I didn’t have that option for proof. I also did not have a receipt or official registration cerificate (because the school I attend does just about everything of this sort online). I ended up scanning my driver’s license and getting an enrollment verification pdf file from the service my school provides for this (online also). After uploading these two documents to Adobe, I received my registration code two days later. It took a little of the shine off the product because I had to wait and because of the slight hassle in scanning and whatnot, but these products are well worth the trouble.
The installation took what I believe to be a solid hour (and my system is a good one). I read a book while I waited for it to prompt me for the insertion of the second cd and then went back to reading, so I’m not sure of the exact time it took. But be prepaired for a lengthy install. It also required a reboot (on Vista). The standard install does not include anything from the content cd or the tutorial cd. If you plan to use any of that, you will need to have the cd’s handy. I plan to use the tutorials, I also plan to need several tutorial books if I am to have any hope of coming close to discovering all the features of these intense programs and having the least idea of what to do with them. Flash I feel comfortable with and am learning the new features quickly. Photoshop and Illustrator have always overwhelmed me with their capabilities and InDesign looks equally imposing. Adobe software is well worth the price, but there is a steep learning curve that comes with products. This is one of the advantages of the academic version for those who qualify: you can learn what you need to know before investing in the standard commercial suite.

Awsome product with exceptional price,
Bought this to support a photography class I am taking. Product installed easily and acquisition of the serial number was quite easy. All in all, I am happy with this product.
